This may sound like a very great cliche, but my opinion about Israel, or mainly any conflict that was started because of as small a thing as a kidnapping, is that war is/was not the answer.
In addition, I also think that this is not any response to a kidnapping of two domestic soldiers, in regard to Israel, but Israel was in desperate need to disarm the Hezbollah extremists for quite a time and that this domestic kidnapping was simply an excuse that they could use to legitimately attack them.
I think, in conclusion, that Israel's action is extremely harsh. Yes, they're supposedly striking Hezbollah strongholds within Lebanon, but what is their ratio of Hezbollah casualties to Civilian casualties? Here are some statistics for current Lebanese casualties :
Code:
DEAD 477-828
WOUNDED 2,145-3,200
DISPLACED 1,000,000
-
WikipediaYes. Now, let's look at the Hezbollah.
Code:
DEAD 83 [confirmed by Hezbollah]
DEAD 400 [claimed by IDF]

So, 83-400 to 477-828 deaths. Let's assume that both these last two numbers are incorrect, considering that Hezbollah is masking the actual amount of injury that they had accumulated from this incident, and the fact that Israel is most likely exaggerating the amount of kills they have accumulated so far to try and even out the ratio between civilian and military kills. That means that in actual fact, Israel is killing almost twice (or twice more than that) as much civilians as they are Hezbollah. So, is this truly a proper price for the disarming of a supposed "terrorist" group?
The fact that they displaced more than 1,000,000 people, and that Israel is so far, to this date, reporting to the rest of the world they are a merciful army that are simply trying to take away weapons from a terrorist group with as much weapons in their warehouses as there are weapons in Syria (and any other sources of their weaponry) is extremely idiotic. Israel is not taking weapons from anyone since as this conflict continues nobody is going to win except both groups themselves in the war of civilian deaths. All civilians in Lebanon are trapped by the destruction of bridges, runways, and other transportation infrastructure.
Just some thoughts.
